The Integral Assessment

Hi, everyone.

I think the area that I am struggling with the most is with interpersonal relationships.  I tend to take my responsibilities very seriously (work, school, military, bills, etc) and often forget to make time to spend with my family and friends.  Additionally, I know that I set very high expectations for myself and others with a tendency to be hard on people who do not meet my expectations, regardless of whether they were reasonable expectations or not.  I know that this has led to difficulty in dealing with people in the past and is an area that I need to work on.

I think the best way to improve in this area is to practice love and forgiveness as described in the reading this week.  I also need to realize that everyone is different and has different capabilities.  I need to be more appreciative of people for who they are and not for who I want them to be.

  1. Hello Joy, I think you have great goals this week. Over the past few years I have learned to nurture my relationships. I have developed family and peer relationships that are incredible and help me sustain my energy for all of my responsibilities. It takes time and energy to nurture the relationships, however, that energy comes back tenfold! It is important that we love people for exactly who they are good and bad! Making the connection is what it is about not controling how others behave. Now that will suck the energy right out of you...lol...I am confident you will find that by nurturing these relationships you will become a more understand person and you will develop some cherished relationships.

  2. Joy the good thing is that you are aware of the way you are and have the ability to alter your expectations if you want to. The question is do you want to? You have high expectations on you and others. Is that a bad thing? I am sure sometimes it is but why? Because when things don't go the way you want then you become upset and frustrated maybe....It is not always easy but sometimes we have to go with the flow. This is not usually the case with work but for sure in other areas of life! I wish you the best:)
